RCMP charge eight speeders, one impaired tractor driver over weekend

WINNIPEG — The Westman Traffic Services were busy the weekend of April 24 – they charged eight super-speeders and one impaired tractor driver.

Despite 12 people losing their lives so far this year on Manitoba’s roadways, some drivers are still not slowing down, buckling up or driving sober.

Each of the eight super-speeders were stopped and charged with going over at least 140 km/hr. The one impaired tractor driver was charged with Driving while Disqualified, as he had a previously impaired driving offense.

The RCMP said four of the drivers tried to defend their actions by saying they do not like to drive at night, so they were speeding to get to their destination faster.

Here is the list of offenders:

  • Three friends — two males, 20, from Winnipeg and one male, 22, from Calgary were stopped by RCMP when they were travelling together on the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Brandon. Each vehicle was travelling 157 km/hr. They were headed to the same destination and they all received fines of $796.25.
  • Two drivers were stopped at 141 km/hr and 150 km/hr, west of Brandon.
  • A male driver, in his 40s, from Winnipeg, was travelling with two women and two young children in the car when he was stopped going 154 km/h, west of Brandon.
