Calgary man killed in collision on Trans-Canada Highway near Alberta-B.C. border

CALGARY – A Calgary man has died after a crash on the Trans-Canada Highway near the Alberta-B.C. border on Friday evening.

It happened three kilometres east of Field, B.C. around 7 p.m.

“At this time we believe that the eastbound vehicle failed to negotiate a curve striking on oncoming westbound vehicle,” said Cst. Spencer Lainchbury with Golden-Field RCMP.

The passenger of the westbound vehicle was a 37-year-old Calgary man and pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver was a 32-year-old Calgary man who was treated by paramedics and released.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle was a 33-year-old man believed to be from the Salmon Arm area.

He sustained serious injuries, and was airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to a Calgary hospital.

He is expected to survive.

The Trans-Canada Highway was closed in both directions at Golden and Lake Louise for several hours while police investigated the crash.

The highway is now open.
