Fatal collision closes Hwy 400 north of Toronto

TORONTO – A fatal collision has closed both the northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 400 north of Toronto early Thursday morning.

The crash involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle happened around 2 a.m. between Barrie and Innisfil.

A female victim in a car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The crash has resulted in the closure of the northbound lanes of Hwy. 400 from County Rd. 88 to Mapleview Dr. and the southbound lanes from Mapleview Dr. to County Rd. 89.

Ontario Provincial Police are reminding drivers to pay special attention to the road due to icy conditions.

There’s no word yet when the highway will reopen.

Meanwhile, a number of collisions were also reported on highways north of Toronto throughout the early morning hours.

A tractor-trailer jackknifed and struck a guard rail on Hwy 400.

Several crashes were also reported along Highway 404 near Aurora Rd. with vehicles ending up in ditches.
