Kyle Ledesma sentenced to life in prison for killing bartender in botched robbery

CALGARY – A Calgary man who shot and killed a bartender at a northeast pub in 2010 has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years.

Kyle Victor Ledesma was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Dexter Bain by a jury last month.

Bain was closing up Our Place Pub and Grill in the 3700 block of 26th Avenue N.E on November 27, 2010 when Ledesma robbed him at gunpoint. He was shot twice in the back with a .22 caliber revolver and left to die.

Ledesma was already in custody when he was rearrested for the murder of Bain.

The sentence is not as severe as what the Crown had been hoping for; they were seeking no parole eligibility for 18 to 19 years.

The defence wanted no more than 12 years before Ledesma would be eligible for parole.
