Massive fire breaks out at southeast manufacturing plant
CALGARY – Flames and plumes of black smoke could be seen from the Standen’s manufacturing facility in the 1200 block of 58 Avenue S.E. Friday evening after a fire broke out on the building’s roof just after 5:30 p.m.
Global’s Tony Tighe reporting live from the scene said stacks of various construction materials were visible on the roof.
Fire officials said a two-alarm fire had erupted but was under control just before 6:30 p.m. thanks to “aerial master streams to fight the fire from above.” The Calgary Fire Department said approximately 100 employees were evacuated and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
