Calgary police recover off-duty officer’s stolen rifle

CALGARY- Calgary police have recovered an officer’s patrol rifle that had been stolen from a vehicle in his off hours on April 4.

The officer went into a restaurant in the 0-100 block of Crowfoot Terrace N.W. and parked his car in a lot. When he returned to his car, he saw that it had been broken into and the patrol rifle case and its contents had been taken. That included the military-style Colt C8 semi-automatic carbine as well as two ammunition clips containing 56 bullets.

Police say the rifle was recovered on the evening of Wednesday, April 15. No charges have been laid and the investigation continues. The police officer who left the rifle in the vehicle remains suspended with pay.

Investigators continue to look for the driver of a vehicle that was temporarily blocked by the suspect’s vehicle between 10:45 p.m. and 11 p.m. April 4.
