Valleyfield man charged in connection with chainsaw attack

VALLEYFIELD – It seemed everyone was talking about the chainsaw incident – the “more recent” chainsaw incident, that is.

It took place Thursday afternoon around 4 p.m. in the ground floor apartment of a building on Ellice Street.

Police say 28-year-old Dany Beland got into a verbal altercation with two people and at one point, he allegedly pulled out a chainsaw, turned it on and used it to threaten a man and a woman.

On Friday, when Global News visited the scene, chainsaw blade marks were still visible on the window screen outside the suspect’s home.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“Fortunately the victims were not injured,” says Sgt. Joyce Kemp from the Surete du Quebec.

“Police were called and were able to proceed to the arrest of the 28-year-old suspect.”

This is the second bizarre chainsaw attack this week in Quebec.

On Easter Sunday, Manuel Delisle from St-Jerome was filmed firing up his chainsaw and scaring a family in a car after an apparent case of road rage.

Delisle is facing one criminal charge.

In the more recent Valleyfield case, Beland is facing a total of nine counts – including mutiple counts of uttering threats and assault.

Prosecutor Nancy Lecompte objected to Beland’s immediate release Friday in court.
