HALIFAX- The Halifax Central Library left many Haligonians disappointed today.

The library’s website said it was open for regular hours on its main info page, but a sign on the front door said otherwise. Many readers planned to spend Easter Monday at the new library, browsing the stacks, doing homework, or researching, but their plans were quickly changed.

Summer Luedee was planning her first visit to the new library on her final day of her Easter break. She was in search of fantasy books, and was really looking forward to checking out the kids floor. Sadly, Luedee had to find something else to do with her day-off from school.

“I wanted to see the Kids Centre because I heard it was giant!” she said.

Luedee was also looking forward to checking out the top floor of the library on her first visit.

Joanne Kettle didn’t have a holiday today, but had taken a vacation day to spend the morning at the library brushing up on her Spanish skills.

“Actually I checked online, and now that I’m here I’m a little disappointed,” said Kettle.

Many customers had checked the library’s website before heading downtown, and were surprised and frustrated to find the doors closed.

The City of Halifax has responded to people’s frustration over the closed library on Twitter by saying that customers should call ahead before visiting any of their locations today.

The library had posted holiday hours on another part of their website – indicating it would be closed today. They will be open and back in business tomorrow.
