VANCOUVER – It is no surprise that Vancouver gets a lot of rain. The city is now going to spend $50,000 of municipal tax dollars to study it.

The request for proposals for the rainfall study closes next Thursday. Winning bidders will be tasked with predicting the frequency of extreme storms and sudden deluges up to 200 years in the future.

“I think we’re all experts on today’s rain,” said Brain Crowe, City of Vancouver water and sewers director. “But we aren’t experts on predicting the weather patterns in climate change in the long term. And we’re trying to design our sewers to last 100 years, so the more input we have to that, the better the job we can do.”
