WINNIPEG — The snow has melted in the city. What’s left behind can only be described as filth.
“It amazes me how much litter is left,” Take Pride Winnipeg’s Tom Ethans said Tuesday.
Take Pride Winnipeg travels city streets each spring, looking for litter.
They keep track of what they see and give each block a cleanliness ranking using an index of one to four, with four being worst.
“It bothers me when I see the amount of litter we have,” Ethans said.

Transcona was identified as the worst area of the city, with a grade of 2.56. The cleanest? St. Boniface at 1.85.
The overall city score is 2.19, which is on par with last year, Ethans said.
“There is litter no matter where you are; it’s not just in one area. There is a four on at least one street in each area of the city,” Ethans said.

Take Pride Winnipeg looks at 30 to 40 streets in each of 12 areas of the city and assigns an area a score based on what is found.
Now that Take Pride Winnipeg has identified which streets are dirtiest, they hope groups will volunteer to clean up in the coming weeks.
