Friday March 27th  on The Morning News

The wait is finally over as the top Men’s Curling teams on the planet are in town for the 2015 Ford World Men’s Curling Championship. At 6:45am we’ll get a preview of the event from co-Chair Graham Harris and also take a closer and who is representing Canada this year from National Coach Paul Webster.

Nova Scotia’s former Energy Minister, Andrew Younger joins us at 7:15am for a candid discussion. He’s  been on a temporary leave of absence for months. And earlier this week he submitted his resignation as a cabinet minister. There’s been many rumours around why Younger needed the time off. Friday we’ll find out more about what led to his decision.

At 7:20am we’ll talk with professional whisky tutor and Canadian Brand Ambassador for Ardbeg and Glenmorangie,  Ruaraidh MacIntyre who will be in Halifax taking part in the 4th annual Celebrate Whiskey event happening Friday night at the Casino. The sold-out event will celebrate 200 whiskies from around the world!

At 7:45am we’ll talk with Toronto singer-songwriter Ron Hawkins. He’s best known for his 90’s rock bank “The Lowest of the Low”. The Canadian indie-rock-and-roll hall of famer has also done quite a bit of solo work in his career and is back in Halifax for a special performance at the Carleton supporting his new record “Garden Songs” released in early February.

We’ll be joined by Carolyn Jarvis, host of Global TV’s investigative program, 16×9 at 8:15am. Carolyn will tell us about a special that will be broadcast on Saturday looking into the events surrounding the June 4th shooting of three RCMP officers in Moncton.  The 16×9 investigation uncovers serious concerns about whether the RCMP have the proper equipment and training they need to respond to the kind of shooting rampage officers experienced in Moncton last year.

It’s spring so let’s sing! At 8:45am we chat about Saturday’s concert with the Halifax Camerata Singers. You’ll learn about the top-notch special guests performing, plus you’ll get a sneak preview of the show A Time For All Things.

And we’ll wrap things up at 8:50am with some fresh cut flowers. It’s that time of year again – the Canadian Cancer Society will be promoting the daffodil as part of its fight against cancer. The society is encouraging everyone to buy some of their daffodils to show their support and offer encouragement to those living with the disease.
