WATCH: Meteor lights up sky over Halifax

The sky above Nova Scotia lit up on Tuesday night.

Residents who happened to be outside may have caught a bright fireball streaking across the sky around 9 p.m. local time.

Several webcams, operated by Nova Scotia Webcams, captured the meteor as it burned up in the atmosphere. At one point, the meteor appears to brighten before going out of view.

We aren’t in the middle of a major meteor shower, but space debris is constantly burning up in the atmosphere.

The next major meteor shower, the Lyrids, peaks on the night of April 22-23.
