More snow possible for Saskatoon, southeast Saskatchewan

As the feeling of winter returned the first weekend of spring, more snow is forecast in Saskatoon Tuesday. Peter Quinlan / SkyTracker Weather

SASKATOON – Saskatoon saw approximately nine centimetres of snow over the weekend with freezing rain mixed in toward the end, leaving many roads extremely slick. On Sunday night, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement in Saskatoon and central and southern Saskatchewan for a possible 10 to 15 centimetres of snow Tuesday.

In the statement, it was noted there was significant disagreement with current weather models as to the intensity and track of the weather system.

The latest weather models are indicating that the brunt of the system will swing southeast of Saskatoon, however upwards of an additional five centimetres of snow is still possible in the Bridge City.

Saskatoon temperatures are expected to remain below freezing for most of the week until heading into the weekend when the mercury is projected to shoot up toward double-digit temperatures into next week.

The agency issued a snowfall warning Monday for Regina, Moose Jaw, Humboldt, Hudson Bay, Melfort, Nipawin, Wynyard, Moosomin, Yorkton and other parts of east-central and southeastern Saskatchewan.

Areas under the snowfall warning are expected to get around 10 centimetres of snow as a low pressure system over Montana moves eastward and strengthens slightly as it heads east, dropping a swath of rain and snow over parts of the province.

Freezing rain mixed with snow is expected to develop over south-central regions and spread east and north through the day Tuesday as it transitions to be all snow.

The system will then exit the province Tuesday night.
