EDMONTON — In what might be one of the most Canadian things ever, RCMP in the northern Alberta city of Fort McMurray have issued a warning to some would-be Tim Hortons customers.

A release put out on Tuesday night said police “would like to remind the motoring public not to stop on the roadway while waiting to turn right into the Tim Hortons parking lot on Thickwood Blvd in Fort McMurray.”

Not only is it dangerous to block traffic while waiting to get into the parking lot and drive-thru, it is also illegal. Because of ‘no stopping” sign posted along Thickwood Blvd, vehicles blocking the road constitutes a “Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device,” which carries a fine of $172 and two demerit points — a pretty steep price for a cup of coffee.

RCMP said officers will be keeping a close eye on the location, as chances of crashes are much higher in situations like this.
