Stovin nets winner as Blades down Broncos 2-1

SASKATOON – Captain Brett Stovin’s power-play goal in the second period was the eventual winner as the Saskatoon Blades edged the Swift Current Broncos 2-1 in Western Hockey League action on Sunday. Schael Higson also scored for Saskatoon (19-40-4).

Zac Mackay replied for the Broncos (30-28-5), who have lost three straight.

Brock Hamm made 39 saves to get the win while Travis Child made 31 stops.

The Blades are back in action on Wednesday when they host the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Elsewhere, Brett Pollock scored twice and added two assists as the Edmonton Oil Kings downed the Prince Albert Raiders 5-3. Mads Eller, Edgars Kulda and Lane Bauer supplied the rest of the offence for Edmonton (29-28-6).

Sean Montgomery, Simon Stransky and Reid Gardiner chipped in for the Raiders (24-35-3). The defeat extended their losing streak to three games.

Tristan Jarry got the win in net stopping 23 shots. Rylan Parenteau started for Prince Albert and kicked out 13-of-17 shots in 20:21. Nick McBridge played the rest of the game, making 21 saves.

Neither team scored on four power plays.

Pats 6 Warriors 2

REGINA – Pavel Padakin struck twice and added an assist to power the Regina Pats past the Moose Jaw Wa       rriors 6-2.

Padakin, Braden Christoffer, Jesse Gabrielle and Adam Brooks all scored in the third period as Regina (33-20-9) reeled off four unanswered goals. Rykr Cole had a goal as well.

Brett Howden and Torrin White responded for the Warriors (26-32-5).
