CALGARY – The Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation has launched a campaign to raise money to connect Glenbow Ranch Provincial Park to Calgary and Cochrane.
The first phase requires an additional $100,000 to what has already been raised in order to construct a path from Calgary to the park.
And the foundation must have the money in place by Canada Day.
“We have some funding that has to be spent this year, and if we can’t take advantage of that funding this year, we could actually lose money that’s dedicated towards the project,” said Tara McFadden, community engagement officer for the Glenbow Ranch Park Foundation.
The foundation wants to build the path this year, and connect to Cochrane by 2020, if all goes according to plan.
That way, people will be able to walk and bike between the two communities.
Currently, about 100,000 people a year visit the park, which some describe as a “hidden gem.”
The foundation says adding trail connections to Calgary and Cochrane could see a dramatic jump in visitation.
“Visitor use could exceed a million people a year,” said McFadden.
