Regina Pats down Saskatoon Blades 5-4 in shootout victory

SASKATOON – Taylor Cooper scored in regulation and again in the shootout to lead the Regina Pats past the Saskatoon Blades 5-4 on Monday in Western Hockey League action. Cooper, Rykr Cole and Luc Smith all scored in the third period for Regina (33-19-7), which has won three straight.

Captain Braden Christoffer had a goal in the second for the Pats, while Daniel Wapple stopped 40-of-44 shots and turned away three skaters in the shootout.

Brett Stovin had a short-handed goal to give Saskatoon (17-39-4) a 2-0 lead by the 5:23 mark of the second. Ryan Graham’s goal near the midway point of the third period sent the game to overtime, while Sam McKechnie and Nick Zajac also scored. Nik Amundrud made 32 saves for the Blades.

Both teams went 0 for 4 on the power play.

The Blades are back on the ice Wednesday when they take on the Swift Current Broncos.
