WINNIPEG — Manitoba Hydro customers are once again being targeted by phone scammers.
The provincial utility sent out a tweet around 3 p.m. Friday afternoon warning its customers to report any suspicious calls they receive claiming to from Manitoba Hydro.
Hydro warns its customers to be aware they don’t:
- Demand payment to be made immediately over the phone.
- Accept PayPal or credit card payments.
- Ask customers to wire money.
Another type of scam involves a person claiming to be a Manitoba Hydro employee selling ‘power saving devices’ that will save the customer money on their electricity bills. Hydro has not approved any type of device and does not ask for credit card information over the phone.
If anyone believes they received a scam phone call or email do not provide any information to the caller or click any links within an email. Immediately report it to Manitoba Hydro at 1-204-480-5900.
