EDMONTON —High-end winter coats, construction tools, electronics — and even the kitchen sink — were among the stolen items found by Lloydminster RCMP following a gas ‘n’ dash in the border city.

RCMP were called Monday after a U-Haul truck towing a travel trailer drove away from a gas station without paying. Officers caught up with the vehicle before it left the city, and discovered about $45,000 worth of stolen goods inside the U-Haul.

Among the items:

  • A double basin kitchen sink
  • Hockey jerseys, Helly Hansen winter jackets, hoodies, shirts and Under Armour athletic clothing with its security tags broken
  • Athletic shoes and snowboard boots
  • A children’s toy ATV
  • A bicycle trailer designed to haul children
  • Tool cabinets and various tools, including a gas generator and a compound miter saw
  • An industrial heater
  • DVDs, a PlayStation 3, Xbox and other various electronics

Methamphetamine was also found during the investigation. Three people were arrested. A 40-year-old man and 31-year-old woman from Edmonton, along with a 45-year-old woman from Grand Prairie are all facing charges of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance.

RCMP believe many of the goods were stolen from the Edmonton-area between Feb. 1 and 2. Businesses in Sherwood Park, Lloydminster, Saskatoon, and Edmonton are asked to check stock levels and video surveillance from those dates. They’re urged to contact Lloydminster RCMP if they think theft or fraud may have happened.

“The recovery of these items was generated by community involvement and solid police work,” said Const. Grant Kirzinger. “As this investigation covers many different cities and numerous businesses, the Lloydminster RCMP requires the assistance of businesses, large and small, to assist with completing a thorough investigation to hold those responsible accountable for these crimes.”

RCMP said the travel trailer was stolen from Leduc. While the U-Haul truck was not stolen, Police are investigating the validity of its rental agreement.

Lloydminster RCMP have recovered more stolen property than normal in the past week or so, according to Kirzinger.

In one case, police recovered a trailer filled with about $10,000 worth of stolen goods, along with a snowmobile that had been stolen for the second time since December. Charges are pending in that case.
