Special weather statement issued for Southern Ontario

WATCH: The Thursday, January 29, 2015 weather forecast for Toronto, Ontario and the surrounding area.

TORONTO – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, due to snow moving into the region today.

The national weather office says an Alberta clipper will sail across Southern and Eastern Ontario bringing with it an estimated 10 to 15 centimetres of snow in some areas.

The heaviest amount of precipitation will fall in the Grey-Bruce East area across Muskoka and into the Ottawa Valley.

Most regions will receive about 5 to 10 centimetres of snow further south, except for the Windsor and Chatham areas where snowfall is expected to be below 5 centimetres.

Environment Canada says the cold front associated with the clipper will bring northwesterly winds and usher in colder arctic air beginning this evening.
