MONCTON – Codiac RCMP in Moncton have lifted a police perimeter that had been in place for most of Sunday after they received a call about a suspicious man carrying a firearm.

Police received a call just before noon of a male walking down Katherine Avenue with what appeared to be a firearm. The male was described as possibly in his late teens with dark-coloured hair, average height and possibly a slim build.

He was wearing dark-coloured pants and a grey-coloured jacket with red stripes on the sleeves. He was also wearing a dark-coloured, knitted toque.

Police set up a perimeter and blocked areas near Mountain Road, Mapleton Road, Kendra Street, Connaught Avenue, Killam Drive, Anne Street and West Lane.

The block was lifted Sunday evening.

RCMP had asked residents to stay inside their homes while the area is searched.

“One person called this in,” said Cpl. Chantal Farrah. “This suspicious person hasn’t been seen since.”

Farrah said RCMP were taking “a lot of precautions.” An RCMP police dog and emergency response personnel were called into the scene.

RCMP are still investigating and asking anyone with information that could help identify the person to call Codiac Regional RCMP.
