From Nuisance, a chihuahua near St. Clair and Weston Road, to a pit bull/bull mastiff cross in mid-Etobicoke named Tank, Toronto’s dog licence records reflect 71,984 different sets of choices about pet ownership.
Choice of names varies by breed, choice of breed varies by neighbourhood, and breed statistics give us insight into whether Ontario’s pit bull ban worked as intended.
Using an access-to-information request, Global News obtained records showing the breed, name and postal code of all of Toronto’s licenced dogs, and our analysis gives a unique insight into urban life.
