KELOWNA–The UBC Okanagan Heat women’s volleyball team is climbing up the ranks and gunning for a National Championship.
It’s looking good so far, as the Heat hasn’t dropped a match since November 1 in a contest with the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver.
“It looks really good for us right now and it feels really good,” claims Heat player Brianna Beamish.
It should feel good – the Heat now sit number one in the Western Conference and number two in the country.
“We’ve been on a bit of a roll these last couple months,” says head coach Steve Manuel.
“The team is playing quite well and we’re gearing up towards a playoff run.”
UBCO has had limited chances to play eastern teams so far, but head coach Steve Marvel says it’s western teams that are the real rivals.
“The western conference is normally the toughest. For the last 4-6 years, western teams usually come in 1-2-3 at nationals. That’s where battle is week in and week out is in the west.”
