Fourth Okanagan house fire this week

Kelowna–A Kelowna family is out of their home, after the fourth fire in the Okanagan in the last week.

Crews were called to a duplex in Rutland, around 3:30 on Saturday afternoon.

Everyone was out of the home by the time firefighters arrived.

Crews found smoke coming from the open door, and a small kitchen fire that had spread to the attic.

“Unfortunately it was a grease fire,” says Platoon Captain Kelly Stephens,” We had to pull ceiling down  in the kitchen to check for extension.”

Damage to the kitchen and ceiling makes the home uninhabitable for the time being.

The family will be looked after by Emergency Social Services for the next few days.
