A Good Samaritan in Jefferson City, Missouri helped a homeless man get shelter this week, sparking a series of donations to keep Lucky warm for a while.
Audria Roettgen first noticed local homeless man Lucky and his puppy Tiger panhandling in front of a Wal-Mart on a frigid day.
“She started crying,” said Lucky to KRCG. “And I explained to her that I had $40 and I was trying to get a motel room. It was really getting cold. She helped me out.”
Roettgen paid for a two-night stay for Lucky at a nearby hotel that allows pets.
When the hotel shared Roettgen’s act of kindness on social media, people across the country began donating, eventually raising enough money for Lucky and Tiger to stay at the hotel for at least 10 days.
The hotel’s director of sales says they are happy to have Lucky.
“We know that Lucky is going to be showered with love,” said Christene Main. “He’s going to be showered with warmth, he’s going to be taken care of, he’s going to have a friendly face treating him like a human instead of like another statistic or a piece of litter on the street.”
As for Lucky, he was nearly speechless at the generosity.
“I don’t know what else to say except for thank you very much and God bless you.”
