CALGARY – The Calgary Fire Department is reminding people to steer clear of river banks after a man had to be rescued from the Bow River on Monday.

Crews were called around 8:40 p.m. for reports of a middle-aged man clinging to an ice shelf in the river.

Because of the strong current and slippery conditions, the aquatic rescue team had to be called in.

The man was eventually pulled from the freezing water.

Fire officials said he was very very cold, but otherwise alright.

He had been in the icy cold water for about 20 minutes.
