Investigators try to piece together cause of Edmonton mass murder

Forensic teams are carefully combing a north Edmonton property.

At the same time just a few feet from investigators, a makeshift memorial is growing in tribute to the seven people found murdered, including two young children.

One officer escorted a family member beyond the police tape so he could put flowers on the doorstep, along with a pair of young girl’s shoes.

There are three different crime scenes that police are linking together.

In total, nine people are dead, including the man responsible for the mass murder.

“The first in November of 2012 where a male subject was arrested and charged for offenses relating to domestic violence, sexual assault and uttering threats. The second occurrence was in 2013 and related to a check on welfare.”

Knecht also said the male suspect is well-known to EPS, and has a criminal record dating back to September 1987.

Neighbours tell us in recent months they have seen a couple arguing at the Lakeview home.

Police are still investigating why Lam would have killed 37-year-old Cyndi Duong.

Duong was the first victim, shot to death at a southwest Edmonton home.

Officials believe Lam took his own life at a restaurant in Fort Saskatchewan early Tuesday morning. They are not searching for any additional suspects.

Police said it will take some time to fully piece together what caused such an extreme case of domestic violence.

“These murders were described by investigators as appearing to be planned and deliberate,” said Knecht.
