UPDATE: All warnings mentioned in this story have ended.
SASKATOON – Bundle up! An extreme cold warning is still in place for parts of Saskatchewan. Environment Canada says eastern portions of the province are expecting periods of very cold wind chills.
The agency says a rigid of high pressure has brought in a cold arctic air mass over the Prairies and extreme wing chill values of -40 C to -45 C is expected Tuesday morning. Wind chills are expected to abate later in the morning as temperatures rise into the -20’s.

At these extreme values, some people are at greater risk than others for frost bite and hypothermia:
- homeless people
- outdoor workers
- people living in homes that are poor insulated (with no heat or no powere)
- people with certain medical conditions such as diabetes, peripheral neuropathy affecting the blood vessels, people taking certain medications including beta-blockers
- winter sports enthusiasts
- people who consume excess alcohol
- infants
- seniors
Dress for the weather if you need to be outside. Synthetic and wool fabrics provide better insulations and some synthetics are designed to keep perspiration away from the body.
Wear layers with a wind resistant outer layer. Layers can be removed if you get too warm or added if you get cold. Also wear socks, gloves, a hat and scarf.
If you get wet, change into dry clothing as soon as possible. You lose heat faster when you are wet.
