Winnipeg school fire sends one to hospital

WINNIPEG — A fire caused extensive damage to Ecole Sacre Coeur on Furby Street Friday night, injuring a custodian. He was taken to hospital as a precaution according to Platoon Chief Morris Semkowski.

Fire crews responded to the fire just before 7 p.m.. When they arrived, a caretaker informed them there was an active fire inside. Once crews entered the building they located the blaze in the music room and quickly extinguished it.

Crews say the fire was contained to the music room and there is smoke damage to the remainder of the school.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
