Freezing rain, cold create slippery roads in southern Manitoba

WINNIPEG – Cold combined with freezing rain overnight is creating slippery conditions in Winnipeg and on southern Manitoba highways Monday morning.

Icy roads caused Prairie Spirit School Division to cancel buses in the Holland-Treherne area.

Sanding crews were out in Winnipeg overnight. Most major routes had fairly good driving conditions, but side streets were still icy and slippery.

The majority of highways in southern Manitoba were ice-covered or partly ice-covered, according to the provincial road report. The Perimeter Highway was partly ice-covered with part of the North Perimeter showing particularly bad conditions.
