FREDERICTON – New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization says there are over 60 roads across the province that are flooded as a result of Wednesday’s storm.

Most of the roads are in the Moncton area.

“The Department of Transportation is assessing these situations and they are trying to get roads clear as much as they can,” said Paul Bradley, spokesperson for NB EMO.

About 8,500 New Brunswickers woke up Thursday without power, most in the Woodstock area.

Schools in the northern and eastern part of the province were closed. Some central schools were closed due to the power outages.

The utility has 150 crews on the ground working to get everyone’s power back on.

The storm brought so much rain, Environment Canada’s Claude Côté said it may have broken rainfall records:

  • Bathurst airport recorded 57 cm of snow
  • Grand Manan Island recorded 167 mm of rain
  • Moncton recorded 134 mm of rain

“It’s twice the normal rainfall amount for the entire month of December with just one significant weather event,” Côté said.

There are no remaining weather warnings for the province. Over the next few days New Brunswickers can expect mild temperatures and light showers.
