CALGARY – Calgary police have charged a 38-year-old Calgary woman with murder after a severely injured woman was dropped off at a city hospital on Friday morning.
Diane Ruby Palmantier, 38, of Calgary has been charged with first-degree murder after the woman in her 50s was dropped off at the Peter Lougheed Hospital. The woman died a short time after being brought to the emergency room. Police say the victim had been assaulted over a period of hours.
A woman who arrived at the hospital with the victim was taken into custody by police. Police also tracked a pickup truck that was believed to have brought the women to the hospital to a home on Memorial Drive N.E.
A man in a home in the area was taken in for questioning and was later released.
Police are not releasing the name of the victim because next of kin have not been located and her identity has not been confirmed. Investigators believe the accused and the victim were friends.
Palmantier will appear in court on Monday.
The woman’s death is Calgary’s seventh homicide of 2011.
