One woman in custody after care home fire in Kelowna

KELOWNA — A woman has been arrested after a small fire inside a Kelowna care home. It happened at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the activity room of White Heather Manor.

Residents were forced to evacuate.

By the time fire crews arrived on scene the building’s sprinkler system had already put out the flames. While there wasn’t any major damage from the small fire, officials say there was some water damage.

The fire was deemed suspicious and police say they have one woman in custody but charges have yet to be laid. RCMP were unable to confirm if the woman was a resident of the care home. She is scheduled for a bail hearing Sunday.
