WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld to a contract extension.

The 25-year-old Regina-born player started eight games this past season, his first as a Bomber and fourth in the CFL. Neufeld was acquired by Winnipeg in a October 2013 trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders for defensive end Alex Hall and a draft pick.

“Pat Neufeld is a strong asset for us on our offensive line,” said Bombers general manager Kyle Walters in a news release. “Obviously we need him to stay healthy and Pat knows that more than anybody. He is a hard-working young man and we have full confidence he will make a solid impact on our offensive line in 2015.”

Neufeld was not a pending free agent. His new contract will keep him with the Bombers through 2017.

“To be able to sign this agreement and have some clear picture of the future is a great thing personally for me,” said Neufeld. “When I was first traded to Winnipeg from the Riders, obviously it was hard to leave family and where I grew up but it quickly became clear Winnipeg is a great spot to play football. I know as an offensive unit we are excited about 2015 and getting back out there to build on this past season.”
