Watch (above): Grey Cup was delivered to Vancouver with much fanfare
The much coveted and most important part of Grey Cup weekend made a grand entrance in Vancouver Wednesday morning.
The Grey Cup itself was delivered over both sea and land.
First, it was whisked across Vancouver Harbour in a boat, escorted by military and navy personnel.
It was then greeted and blessed by members of a First Nation.
The Grey Cup delivery kicked off five days of festivities leading up to the big game on Sunday.
The Cup will be contested between the Calgary Stampeders and Hamilton Tigers at BC Place Stadium this year.
Officials expect the roar on the shore will generate millions of dollars in revenue for B.C.
The 2011 Grey Cup that was held in Vancouver had an economic impact in excess of $118 million for the province.
However, organizers say about 4,300 tickets still remain unsold for Sunday’s game, with no home team on the field.
