It’s been one busy day of news for the British monarchy.

On Friday, Prince William and Kate announced they will be visiting New York and Washington this December, Prince William knighted Daniel Day-Lewis, and Prince Charles celebrated his 66th birthday. Where does a royal watcher begin?

Let’s start with William and Kate’s U.S. trip this December. Absent from this tour appears to be Prince George. But is this the royal parents first night away from their prince? Not so. It’s believed William and Kate’s first night away from their tiny tot was during their tour of New Zealand in April earlier this year.

During this upcoming tour by the Duke and Duchess, many fans are hoping the loving couple will be caught on the ‘Kiss Cam’ at the NBA game they plan to attend on Dec. 8. We normally don’t see royals kiss in public, especially during official engagements (unless they’re getting married). So will this happen? We’ll have to wait and see.

In other news, it’s Prince Charles’ 66th birthday today. How does a future monarch celebrate? Well, we can only speculate since such personal details are often not released to the public. But, I would expect he’d be spending a quiet day with Camilla and other close family and friends. Perhaps he’ll also take some time to indulge his talent as a watercolourist. Painting for most of his adult life, Prince Charles has exhibited his art, with any income it generates going to The Prince of Wales’s Charitable Foundation.

Lastly, on top of all this, actor Daniel Day-Lewis was knighted by Prince William. The actor, 57, famous for having won three Academy Awards for his roles in Lincoln (2013), There Will Be Blood (2008), and My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown (1990) is now Sir Daniel Day-Lewis.

As a fan of both Sir Day-Lewis and Prince William, I don’t know what would be more amazing: meeting Daniel Day-Lewis or being knighted by Prince William.

What I do know is that having younger royals like Prince William increasingly engaged in an official capacity, knighting celebrities and all, is surely only going to help continue the monarchy’s popularity into the future.
