VANCOUVER – Four people have now been arrested for the attempted abduction of a 17-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man in Nanaimo.

RCMP say they received a report of a possible abduction on Nov. 11 in the parking lot of the Foundry Pub on Skinner Street. At about 4 p.m. a witness saw four to five people wearing masks attempting to force two men into a grey Toyota Sienna.

Police were able to identify two suspect vehicles in the case. The Sienna was rented from an agency in Surrey and a GMC Terrain was rented in Nanaimo. This information, coupled with video surveillance from the business, led officers to a home on Jingle Pot Road. At about 9 p.m. a GMC Terrain was seen approaching the home, but sped off when officers approached.

A few hours later three men and one woman were arrested at the home and taken into custody.

The two victims suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators are waiting for a search warrant to enter the home to gather evidence. The four people in custody, ranging in ages from 20 to 38, were all arrested in connection with the kidnapping but no formal charges have been laid.

“It is only early in the investigation however officers believe this incident has a drug connection. When the home in question is searched, more information should come to light to assist in understanding why this occurred, “says Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Officers are searching for the two vehicles involved. The first, a 2014 grey Toyota Sienna with BC plate 649MPN and the second, a 2014 red GMC Terrain with BC plate 398MSM.  If these vehicles are seen or their whereabouts known, call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-80-222-8477.
