VANCOUVER – A Surrey elementary school was briefly locked down on Wednesday after a man attacked a woman outside.

At about 8:30 a.m., Surrey RCMP were called to Royal Heights Elementary in response to a domestic assault.

A man had attacked a woman, who is known to him, with a small knife. The woman was not badly injured but the school was locked down as a safety precaution.

“For obvious safety reasons, the school was in lock-down for a few minutes, until we could confirm the safety of the students and that the suspect was in custody,” said Cpl Bert Paquet of the Surrey RCMP. “Students were never threatened or at risk during this targeted incident between two adults.”

A 34-year-old man was arrested near the scene and the knife was recovered.
