WINNIPEG — Winnipeggers stopped to remember those who sacrificed so much to give us our freedom with ceremonies across the city on Tuesday.

This year, as citizens across the country pause to reflect on the sacrifices of Canadian Armed Forces members both abroad and at home, Global News social media accounts will also observe two minutes of silence.
Global News Twitter and Facebook accounts across the country will fall silent for two minutes at 11 a.m. EST during the ceremony at Ottawa’s War Memorial. Global Winnipeg will also fall silent on social media for two minutes at 11 a.m. local time.
“This is a symbolic way for Global News to pay its respects to the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country,” said Shauna Rempel, Global News social media strategist. “While we normally strive for constant communication on our social media networks, in this case we can make a more powerful statement by not sharing a word.”
“There is a deeper awareness of Remembrance Day this year and what it stands for,” said Ron Waksman, senior director of online news and current affairs for Global News. “The two minutes of social media silence is a way for our news organization to show respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our Canadian values and freedom.”
