A five-year-old boy who was hospitalized in New York City after returning from West Africa has tested negative for the Ebola virus, health officials said Monday.

“Out of an abundance of caution, further negative Ebola tests are required on subsequent days to ensure that the patient is cleared,” the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene said in a written statement.
