Car crashes into Abbotsford A&W restaurant

A 31-year-old man has been detained by Abbotsford police after a vehicle crashed into an A&W restaurant on South Fraser Way Sunday morning. Abbotsford Assistant Fire Chief Dave Rivett says three patrons inside the restaurant suffered minor injuries.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., police received a report of an erratic driver on South Fraser Way.

Abbotsford Mayor Bruce Banman told Global BC that he was finishing breakfast at a local restaurant when he saw a car travelling at “an unbelievably high rate of speed.”

“It actually went into oncoming traffic and I was absolutely amazed that it didn’t hit anybody,” adds Banman.

As police were responding to the call, they received another report of a vehicle crashing into a nearby A&W restaurant.

Abbotsford Police say an investigation into impaired driving is underway, adding that they are not sure if the restaurant was intentionally targeted.
