It took hours for Vancouver police to negotiate with a distraught man who barricaded inside an East Vancouver apartment this afternoon.
Around 10 a.m., police were called to the apartment in the area of East 16th Ave and Main St after a woman claimed that her ex-boyfriend had broken into her apartment and was acting irrationally.
The woman managed to leave the apartment, but the 41-year-old man remained inside.
Police were concerned with the man’s mental state and started negotiations.
Shortly after 6:30 p.m., the man jumped from the second floor apartment and ran from the building.
Police fired beanbag rounds and were subsequently able to gain control of the man with the assistance of a police dog.
The man has been taken in for treatment of an apparent mental disorder and minor injuries.
