WINNIPEG – Thousands of runners laced up Sunday morning for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
“I love seeing these first-time runners crossing the finish line and throwing their arms up in the air, smiling like getting that medal around their neck is like the biggest thing in the world,” said Jonathan Torchia, the race director.
They were taking part in the third annual Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service half marathon. More than $50,000 was raised at the event this year. All of the money raised stays within the community.
A five-kilometer and a 10-kilometer race are also done.
“It’s really something special here for sure that happened here today,” said Torchia.
