Thursday morning rollover blocks Whitemud Drive

EDMONTON – A single vehicle rollover that happened around 6:08 a.m. Thursday stopped traffic from getting on Whitemud Drive eastbound from 34 Street.

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the rollover, which took place just west of 17 Street.

Police say a PT Cruiser reportedly lost control and went over the median before rolling over.

The only person in the vehicle – the female driver in her early 20s – suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene and taken to hospital by EMS.

It’s believed no other vehicles were involved.

For several hours there were significant traffic delays heading east, and motorists were advised to avoid the area if possible.

Delays were expected to continue until 9 a.m., when police estimated the scene would be cleared. However, traffic cameras showed the road was still blocked around 9:30 a.m.

The scene was cleared before 11 a.m.

There is no word yet on whether the driver will be charged.
