It was a very busy day on Enterprise Way in Kelowna Thursday morning as drivers lined up to get into the Ramada Hotel.

The 17th annual Maxine DeHart Breakfast Drive-Thru saw cars lining up even before the 6a.m. start.

The long running event benefits the United Way.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“It has never waned. Every year I worry, are the people going to come? Will the cheques come and every year they come,” says organizer Maxine DeHart.

The fundraiser attracts all kinds of community members including families, seniors, business people, fire fighters and police officers.

This year, the event raised more than $53,000.

That’s at least $10,000 more than last year.

DeHart adds this year’s total may even be a little higher as cheques are still coming in.

She hopes to keep the event going for at least another three years until it hits the 20 year mark.
