The Calgary Food Bank is hoping to reclaim a past record for the most food collected in one day.
Some 7,000 volunteers will be working throughout the day and hope to collect more than a million pounds of non-perishable food.
Calgary last set a record in 2008, when more than 511,000 pounds was collected. It tried to reclaim the record in 2012, but failed.
The food bank says it’s headed for a period of high demand and has already seen a 10 per cent increase in the number of clients over the summer.
The current record is held by a school in North Carolina.
