Mayoral campaign trail: Tory gets endorsements, Chow on transit

WATCH: John Tory held an event Friday morning – and it was a big one – locking in two major endorsements. Mark Carcasole reports.

TORONTO – John Tory is welcoming new endorsements from members of two former mayoral candidates’ campaign teams on Friday.

Gordon J. Chong from David Soknacki’s camp and Paul Brown from Karen Stintz’s team will put their support behind Tory.

The announcement will be made at a press conference scheduled for 9:15 a.m. at Toronto city hall.

Meanwhile, Olivia Chow will be highlighting the similarities between Ford and Tory’s transit approach Friday morning.

Chow has criticized Tory’s $8 billion SmartTrack proposal for the lack of financial specifics, which the former NDP MP says will add substantial property tax increases.

As for Doug Ford, it’s expected he will hit the campaign trail sometime today. No details of his plans have been released.

Two debates are also scheduled for today:

  • 12:00pm — mayoral luncheon at the Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center for Holocaust Studies, 77 King St. W.
  • 5:30pm — proudTOvote mayoral debate, 350 Victoria St., Library Lecture Hall
