Arrest made in California wildfire

TORONTO – A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with wildfires raging through the parts of northern California.

Wayne Allen Huntsman is suspected to have started the fire. He was arrested in Placerville after being interviewed, authorities said Thursday.

The fire has been burning out of control in the Eldorado National Forest, east of Sacramento and threatens more than 2,000 homes and more than 1,500 other structures in the area.

Several regions have been evacuated.

The fire is believed to have started on Sept. 13 and has burned more than 70,000 acres. Only five per cent of it is contained.

California has been dealing with a record drought, making it a volatile area.
