WATCH: Vancouver man captures attempted armed robbery on camera in Buenos Aires

WATCH: A Canadian man was cycling through Buenos Aires when a man on a motorbike, armed with a gun, confronted him. As Robin Gill reports, the entire incident was captured on a camera mounted on the man’s helmet.

VANCOUVER – A Vancouver man is sharing his video from his vacation in Argentina, which was memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Alex Hennessy was cycling on a tour through Buenos Aires when he was held up at gunpoint.

“We had literally been in Buenos Aires for about three hours,” said Hennessy. They decided to join a bike tour of the city and had a camera mounted on the outside of his backpack and a GoPro mounted on his helmet.

“I was foolishly advertising my gear,” he said.

During the tour, a man on a motorcycle rode directly into Hennessy’s path and when Hennessy tried to ride around him the gunman continued to block him, shouting at him in Spanish to hand over his backpack.

The entire incident was captured on his GoPro.

“There was a bit of miscommunication between us,” said Hennessy. “I thought he initially was mad because we almost got into an accident with each other but then it became pretty apparent to me that he wanted my backpack.”

“And I think just through a language barrier and kind of playing stupid I managed to buy enough time, so that enough attention was brought to the situation and I could get away without giving him anything, so I was pretty lucky.”

Hennessy was finally able to get away with the help of a friend.

“It was such a confused situation, it happened so quickly, that I don’t really know exactly what I was thinking at the moment,” said Hennessy. “I just wanted to get as much distance from him as I could.”

He added that he did not think the man was serious about shooting him because he was pointing it at Hennessy’s knee and foot mostly. “But obviously it’s not a situation you want to test,” said Hennessy.

Local police were shown the footage and the suspect was arrested but they were not able to charge him because Hennessy had not filed a police report.

Hennessy and his friend Mike Graziano are attempting to travel to every country in the world in the next five years and document the entire adventure.

In January a Kamloops family also filmed themselves being robbed at gunpoint in Mexico.

There were four men with machine guns who had created a roadblock on the highway in the mountains of San Juanito, in the state of Chihuahua.

The family were let go after about 30 minutes. The camera snapped a picture of the crime every 30 seconds. With the help of the footage, police were able to track down and arrest the four thieves.
