34 years after Terry Fox set off on his historical ‘Marathon of Hope,’ tens of thousands of people across Canada are running in his honour.

Runners in Port Coquitlam, Fox’s hometown, began their run at 10 a.m.

There are 112 events taking place today in B.C. and the Yukon, and 700 across Canada.

Donna White, Director of the Terry Fox Foundation for BC and the Yukon, says the run transcends Canada’s borders.

“The largest run outside of Canada is actually in Cuba,” she says. “There are runs in Japan, Qatar, China — it’s really amazing for people to come out and share in Terry’s dream internationally.”

Today’s event in Stanley Park in Vancouver is being MC-ed by Global BC anchor Jill Krop.
